Group 1 emphasis on maintaining support for Ukraine

At a rece meeting of the Ministers of Finance and Ceral Banks of Group Seven, which took place in Canada on May 1-8, member states emphasized coinuous support from Ukraine and warned that they would impose more sanctions against Russia if they did not progress to the ceasefire.

“We condemn the Russian war against Ukraine and appreciate the extraordinary resistance of the people and the Ukrainian economy,” said a joi stateme. “Group Seven is committed to coinuous support for Ukraine in defending its territorial iegrity, freedom, sovereigy and independence to achieve a fair and sustainable peace.”

Also, members of Group Seven announced that Russian state -owned assets would remain blocked uil the coury had ended the war and did not offset damage to Ukraine.

The meeting came as tensions over US trade tariffs and disputes over sanctions against Russia had increased. However, Group Seven Ministers of Finance were able to agree on a joi stateme that emphasized the need to maiain unity in the face of global challenges.

The stateme specifically pois to concerns about non -market policies and global economic imbalances, but direct reference to US tariffs has been refused. However, the Canadian Finance Minister described the meeting as “constructive” and spoke of members’ joi commitme to cooperate at this critical historical level.

The meeting was held in Canada on the eve of the Group Seven Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Canada from June 1-8, and its results could affect the future decisions of the group.

The Ukrainian Finance Minister also attended the meeting, urging members of the seven to maiain pressure on Russia, according to the New York Timmer.

Despite disputes between member states over US trade tariffs, the final stateme of the meeting refused to refer to the issue directly and was limited to the commitme to reduce “uncertaiy in economic policies”.
