This masterpiece of Gothic architecture was closed for five years and was undergoing renovation after it was almost destroyed in 2019.
The renovation, which took a remarkable five years for a structure that took almost two ceuries to build, was one of Macron’s efforts in France. The celebration was attended by 1,500 dignitaries, including US Preside-elect Donald Trump, Ukrainian Preside Volodymyr Zelensky, US First Lady Jill Biden and Prince William of the British Royal Family.
The ceremony, which was originally supposed to start in the fro of the church, was moved inside due to bad weather; But unusually strong December winds could not preve Notre Dame from reopening. Choirs sang religious hymns inside the bright nave of the church and the church organ, which had been sile for almost five years, sounded a medley of melodies.
The Archbishop of Paris, Laure Ulrich, began the ceremony with three knocks on the church doors, using a special cane made from charred firewood. Thus, the church was officially reopened for worship.
