Russian Ambassador: Moscow is open to Ukraine peace talks with Trump’s initiative

Moscow’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva said: “If Trump starts Ukraine peace talks, Russia is ready to negotiate to end the war, but any negotiations should be based on the realities of Russia’s progress.”
According to RCO News Agency, Trump has repeatedly criticized the amou of Western aid to Kiev and has promised to end the conflict quickly, without explaining how. His victory in the Nov. 5 presideial election has raised concerns in Kiev and other European capitals about the exte of the U.S.’s future aid commitme to Ukraine.
Gennady Gatilov, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, said: Trump promised to solve the Ukraine crisis overnight. Well, let him try. But we are realistic, of course we know this will never happen. But if he starts or suggests something to start the political process, welcome.”
According to a Reuters report, he added that any negotiations should be based on what he called “the facts on the ground”.
Gatilov noted that Trump’s election represeed a new possibility for dialogue with the United States, but was skeptical about a broader revival of ties. He said: The political elite of the United States, regardless of iernal political changes, coinuously follows the stance of coaining Moscow, and unfortunately, this orieation is deeply rooted, and the change of governme will not help it much.
He added: The only change that may be possible is dialogue between our couries, something that has been lacking in the past few years.
