History of Ahvaz International Airport
Until 1339, Ahvaz Airport was located in Baghat Shahi area of Ahvaz on a land area of 284 hectares, which was the responsibility of the National Iranian Oil Company. Therefore, during a meeting, Ahvaz Airport was handed over to the Civil Aviation Organization free of charge, and the result of this handover was the transformation of Ahvaz International Airport into an operational airport.
In 2018, the name of this airport was changed to Qassem Soleimani Ahvaz International Airport in 2018 to pay tribute to General Qassem Soleimani. Currently, Ahvaz airport has a runway that is 45 meters wide and 3400 meters long. On average, this airport hosts 70 domestic and international flights daily, and therefore it is considered a relatively crowded airport.
