Rece changes to Canada‘s study permit and work permit

Canada’s immigration minister, Mark Miller, announced on September 18: “The cap on the number of iernational studes will coinue to apply.”

Updates announced by the Minister of Immigration Canada:

– Reducing the capacity to accept iernational studes
– Restrictions on receiving a work permit for the spouse of a foreign worker
– Restrictions on receiving work permits for spouses of graduate studes
– Change of work permit conditions after studying PGWP

Provincial certificate for master’s and doctoral studes

In the new update, Master’s and PhD studes also need to obtain a Provincial Certificate (PAL) from now on.

From now on, master’s and doctorate courses also need to obtain attestations and 12% of all attestations are related to these courses.

Changes in work permit conditions after education

Proof of language is required for PGWP applications: for university studes with a minimum of CLB 7 and for college applicas with a minimum of CLB 5.

Mark Miller predicts this will lead to 175,000 graduate work permits (PGWP) being issued in less than three years.

Restrictions on open work permit for spouse

Spouse work visa is not graed for master’s courses of less than 16 mohs.

Regardless of the iernational stude program, from now on people working in Canada can apply for a work permit for their spouse to work in certain occupations. These jobs include three categories of managerial jobs, professional jobs and jobs in demand in the labor market. The exact list of these jobs has not been published yet. Previously, it didn’t matter what kind of work a person was doing to apply for a spouse’s work permit.
