Germany withdrew its troops from Niger

The German army officially withdrew its last forces from Niger and ended its 8-year mission in this West African coury.
According to RCO News Agency, the last 60 German soldiers left in the region left the coury’s army air base in Niamey, Niger and eered Germany.
Represeatives of the Ministries of Defense of Niger and Germany announced the withdrawal of German troops and equipme from this African coury in a ceremony held in the capital of Niger.
According to the Deutsche Welle News channel, the second German transport plane took the military equipme out of Niger. The base of the German forces in Niger had 120 personnel. This place served as a logistics ceer for the UN peacekeeping mission in Niger, which ceased operations in 2023. A total of 3,200 German soldiers worked in this place during the deployme in Niger.
Niger has long been a reliable partner for Europe and the United States in the fight against terrorism, but last year, the African coury was involved in a coup and is now ruled by the military.
Berlin initially announced the withdrawal of its forces in July 2024 and noted that no agreeme has been reached with the new governme in Niger.
The leaders of Niger, like other couries in the Sahel region, have turned to Russia for help.
Niger has stationed a number of Russian military trainers in Niamey. Mali and Burkina Faso cooperate with Moscow. Germany withdrew its forces from Mali in July 2023.
The German military said it hoped that its former airbase in Niamey would coinue to be used as a logistics ceer for the distribution of humanitarian goods.
