Based on exclusive data from the Iernational Air Transport Association (IATA), the Henley Passport Index has just released its 2024 edition. In this index, the Canadian passport has been ranked 7th and has moved up one place compared to last year, which was ranked 8th. Meanwhile, the United States, which was in seveh place last year, now ranks eighth.
This is the first time that Passport Canada has been ranked higher in the Henley Index in many years. The two couries’ passports ranked sixth in 2019, but before and after Canada was ranked lower than the United States. In 2014, the United States was ranked first, along with the United Kingdom.
The latest coe
Canadian passport holders can travel to 187 couries visa-free, without obtaining an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) or obtaining a visa on arrival, up from 185 last year. But there are still a few couries that Canadians need a visa to eer, such as Algeria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Chad and China. Some other couries like Cameroon, Vietnam, Egypt and Benin also require electronic visas.
In this index, Singapore has overtaken Japan and now has the strongest passport. The second strongest passport belongs to France, Japan, Italy, Spain and Germany. Seven couries Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, South Korea and Sweden have taken the third place. Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom also took fourth place.
