Apparely, Russia is planning to destroy or disable satellites by building and placing a nuclear weapon in space.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, reports have recely been published about Russia's activities to build space nuclear weapons, which show that this coury iends to use this weapon to disable and destroy satellites.
Multiple media reports in this case show that the US governme has warned its European allies and the coury's Congress that Russia is trying to build a space weapon with nuclear capabilities. Russia plans to launch this space weapon after construction.
This news was published while Mike Turner, the chairman of the ielligence committee of the US House, had previously issued a serious threat to national security and announced a vague warning about it. Terence requested the preside of this coury to make the information about this threat public. News reports have since released more details about the possible nature of Russia's mystery weapon. It is not yet clear what exactly Russia's nuclear weapon does, but reliable news outlets say that the term nuclear weapon means that the weapon can create an explosion based on nuclear fission or fusion reactions.
If this news is true, Russia's action will violate the Outer Space Treaty concluded in 1967. Under this treaty, the United States, Russia, and other signatories are prohibited from placing nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction in space.
Although a nuclear explosion in space cannot directly affect people, it will destroy couless satellites and disable them. In 1962, the United States detonated a nuclear bomb in near-Earth orbit during a test called Starfish Prime. In this test, about a third of the satellites in orbit were destroyed or completely destroyed.
