Belgian Prime Minister: Russia’s defeat is an illusion
The Prime Minister of Belgium stated that the idea of Russia’s defeat in the Ukraine war is an “illusion”, and said that the idea of using Russia’s frozen assets for the benefit of Ukraine is unprecedented in history and does not seem feasible.
According to Isna, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Voor emphasized that no one really believes in Russia’s defeat in the Ukraine war and called the idea of confiscating Russian assets “unprecedented and impractical”.
In an interview with “La Liber” newspaper, in response to a question about the possibility of confiscating frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine, he said: “Who really believes that Russia will fail in Ukraine? These are pure myths and illusions.
The Belgian prime minister pointed out that in the past, a country’s state assets were only frozen during wartime and could be used as compensation if that country was defeated. But he emphasized that such a scenario is “very unlikely” in the case of Russia.
He added: “Stealing the blocked assets of another country, that is, its sovereign financial resources, such a thing has never been done.”
The Belgian official also said a Russian defeat was “not even desirable” because it could destabilize the nuclear-armed nation.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Europe still lives in the “delusion” of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia, while rationality says that this is not possible. He emphasized that the European countries cut off all relations with Russia on their own initiative.
