Belgium: Loans to Ukraine from Russian assets are an obstacle to peace – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to Mehr news agency, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxim Provo stated in an interview with Politico that the European Union’s decision to provide a loan to Kiev with seized Russian assets could disrupt efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
He said: The seized assets of the Russian government can play a role in creating peace. Our actions regarding the use of these assets should not hinder the peace negotiations.
Provo also criticized the European Union’s “insistence” on using Russian assets to help Ukraine and said: European officials have not been able to find a way to finance Ukraine and only insist on using Russian assets, not knowing what risks this entails.
The peace talks in Ukraine with the mediation of the United States have not been able to resolve the differences between the two sides in the field of delimitation of borders. Moscow and Washington accuse European countries of obstructing the negotiations.
