The theft of 6 ancient statues from the National Museum of Damascus
6 ancient statues have been stolen from the Damascus National Museum, which houses a valuable collection of Syrian archaeological and artistic heritage.
According to Isna, a source in the museum told Reuters News agency that a thief entered the museum on November 10 by breaking a glass window and apparently stayed inside the building until the night.
According to the head of internal security in Damascus, authorities have started an investigation. He confirmed that technical teams are conducting tracking and search operations to arrest the perpetrators and recover ancient artifacts.
He added that the guards and staff of the museum have been interrogated to determine the details of the incident.
The National Museum of Damascus, which was established in 1919, was closed in 2012 due to the conflicts in Damascus. The museum was partially reopened in 2018 and resumed its full operation in January 2025.
