The proposal of the President of Finland for the Putin-Trump-Zelensky meeting in South Africa
The president of Finland proposed a meeting between the presidents of Russia, the United States and Ukraine at the G20 summit in South Africa at the end of November.
According to RCO News Agency, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said on Monday: “The work to end the war in Ukraine continues behind the scenes. “Last week, I talked and consulted with the leaders of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan about this situation.”
“Central Asian countries can act as messengers between the White House and the Kremlin,” Stubb said during a press conference in Helsinki, according to the online newspaper “Kiev Independent”.
He added: “If things go as expected in the next two to three weeks, perhaps where Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can meet is at the G20 summit in Johannesburg.”
US President Donald Trump has sought to arrange a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Zelensky as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin has been avoiding such a meeting for a long time and has repeatedly said that “certain conditions” must be met in advance.
At the end, Alexander Stubb also announced a possible meeting between the presidents of Ukraine, Russia and the United States during the G20 summit in South Africa at the end of November.
