Inauguration of the US-Qatar joint air defense command center in Al Udayd
Today (Monday), the United States Central Command and Qatar opened the first joint air defense command center in the Middle East at Al-Adeed Air Base; The center whose purpose is to strengthen security cooperation and defense coordination between the two countries.
According to RCO News Agency, the United States Central Command “CENTCOM” announced the opening of the first joint air defense command center in West Asia with the participation of Qatar at Al-Adeed Air Base. At the opening ceremony of this center, Centcom Commander Brad Cooper and Qatar Armed Forces Chief of Staff Jassim al-Manai were present and announced the start of this center.
According to a statement released by US Central Command, Cooper said at the ceremony: “Our military relationship with Qatar is stronger than ever.”
He added that “the new joint air defense command center will strengthen regional security cooperation in the coming years.”
In October, US President Donald Trump pledged to consider any armed attack on Qatar as a threat to US security. The executive order issued by the White House stated: “Washington will consider any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure of the Government of Qatar as a threat to the peace and security of the United States.”
The document emphasizes that in the event of such an attack, the United States will take “all legal and appropriate measures, including diplomatic, economic and, if necessary, military measures to defend the interests of the United States and the Government of Qatar and restore peace and stability.”
The document also noted that senior U.S. military and intelligence officials are still working with Qatar on contingency plans for a swift and coordinated response in the event of an attack.
The executive order, which significantly strengthens the US commitment to Qatar, was issued after the Israeli regime carried out an airstrike on Doha last month to assassinate several leaders of the Hamas movement.
The attack raised tensions in Washington, as Qatar is one of America’s closest partners in the region and hosts the largest US military base in West Asia.
