The English media, Financial Times, reported this Friday that the United States canceled the meeting that was supposed to be held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, after Russia’s note to Washington and the insistence of the Russians on their demands regarding Ukraine and the tense telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of Russia and the United States.
Citing three sources, this media announced that one day after the phone call Trump and Putin agreed on a meeting in Budapest to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine; The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia sent a note to Washington and included its demands in it; He emphasized the relinquishment of Ukraine’s territory, the significant reduction of the Ukrainian armed forces, and the guarantee that Kiev would not join NATO.
The Financial Times, quoting an informed source, announced that Washington canceled the meeting between Putin and Trump after the phone conversation between the foreign ministers of the two countries, Sergey Lavrov and Marco Rubio.
Rubio told Trump after the phone call that Moscow was not ready to talk.
Another source said that this position greatly displeased Trump.
American officials are also unhappy with the tone of Lavrov, who considered Ukraine under the control of the Nazis.
