Intensification of US military actions against Venezuela and the reaction of the President of Mexico – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Sputnik, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that she is against the actions of the US government and military in bombing boats in the Caribbean.
In response to a question about the recent attacks on boats that the US considers to be drug smugglers, the President of Mexico said: He does not agree with the US attacks on boats off the coast of South America.
“Obviously, we don’t agree,” Shinbaum said. There are international laws on how to deal with the illegal transportation of drugs or weapons in international waters, and we have expressed this publicly to the US government.
He added that Mexico seeks to develop its relations with the United States, but will not abandon the principles of sovereignty, autonomy and non-interference in the affairs of other countries.
On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal, citing American officials and flight data, reported that in the midst of tensions between the government and the United States and Venezuela, two American B-1 long-range bombers flew near Venezuelan airspace on Thursday.
A U.S. defense official told the Wall Street Journal that the planes are not based at any regional base because they have the ability to reach anywhere in the Caribbean from U.S. soil.
Another official added that more missions involving the bombers will be carried out soon.
Tensions are rising in the region as Washington claims a war against drug traffickers.
“Donald Trump,” the president of the United States, had previously said that his country may also target ground targets in South America after carrying out naval attacks.
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrio Lopez warned on Thursday that any covert CIA operation against his country would fail.
He said: We know that the CIA is present in Venezuela. They may deploy any number of CIA-affiliated units in covert operations, but any attempt by them will fail.
