European Union’s failure to use Russia’s blocked assets – Mehr News Agency | RCO News Agency

According to Mehr news agency, Al-Mayadin news channel reporter said that the European Union has failed to reach an agreement on the use of the frozen assets of Russia in Belgium.

He added: Belgium has refused to touch Russian assets in its banks for fear of Russia’s legal reaction.

Previously “Maria Zakharova“, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the European Union lacks legal tools to seize Russian assets, and therefore seizing assets is considered a form of “theft”.

The European Commission had proposed to allow Ukraine to use frozen Russian assets in Europe to grant a compensatory loan worth 140 billion euros to Ukraine.
