Appointing Qatar’s ambassador to Syria after 14 years – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Sharq Al-Awsat, the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, issued a decree and appointed Khalifa Abdullah Saad Al-Mahmoud Al-Sharif as the country’s ambassador to Syria.
The Amiri Court of Qatar announced in its statement that Khalifa Al-Sharif is the first ambassador that Qatar has appointed to Syria after 14 years.
It should be mentioned that in the last days of last year, the Qatari authorities reopened their embassy in Damascus, the capital of Syria, and raised the flag of their country over the embassy building in Damascus.
It should be noted that Doha closed its embassy in Damascus and recalled its ambassador in July 2011 following the start of unrest in Syria, which turned into a civil war between government forces and armed opposition groups.
