Lazzarini: Education in Gaza should not be closed – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Shahab News Agency, Philip Lazzarini, the Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), said: “The children of Gaza have been brutally deprived of education in the midst of deprivation and emotional trauma.”
He added: Returning children to the education process is UNRWA’s main priority after the ceasefire. 60,000 children benefited from temporary educational spaces in refugee shelters. 300,000 children will receive essential education remotely with the support of UNRWA teachers.
Lazzarini emphasized: Most of the schools are either destroyed or severely damaged and need immediate reconstruction. UNRWA has called for tents and blankets to protect children as winter approaches.
He added: More than eight thousand teachers are ready to resume the educational process in Gaza. Education should not be closed. Desperation is the greatest enemy of children in Gaza.
