According to Mehr news agency, quoted by Tass, Kirill Dmitriev, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the country’s presidential special envoy for economic cooperation with other countries, says that talks have begun on the construction of a tunnel between Russia and the United States along the Bering Strait.

Dmitriev wrote on the “X” social network: “Discussions about the tunnel will begin.”

The plan to build a 100 km tunnel under the Bering Strait has been discussed for decades. Dmitriev said earlier that this tunnel will probably be completed within eight years and its cost will not exceed eight billion dollars. According to him, this project can be a door to the joint exploration of natural resources between the two countries.

US President Donald Trump, in a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, his American counterpart at the White House, said that he found the idea of ​​building this tunnel attractive.
