General strike and widespread protests in Spain in solidarity with Gaza – Mehr News Agency | RCO News Agency
According to Mehr news agency, quoted by Al Jazeera, on Wednesday, several Spanish cities were the scene of a general strike in protest of the “ongoing genocide” against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
According to the report, tens of thousands of people participated in more than 200 demonstrations across Spain at the request of major labor and student unions. While carrying flags and banners in support of Palestine, the protesters demanded the end of military and diplomatic cooperation with Israel.
While chanting slogans in support of Palestine, the protesters demanded from the governmentPedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, asked him to take an “effective and courageous” position in support of Palestine and Gaza.
This strike has been held in the midst of the growing wave of public anger over Israel’s action in attacking the “Resistance fleet” and arresting the activists stationed there.
This is the largest strike of its kind in Europe since the start of the war against Gaza, and represents the solidarity of trade unions and student movements with the popular Spanish stance against Israeli policies.
The Spanish government is one of the fierce European critics of the Zionist regime’s attack on the Gaza Strip.
Madrid had previously joined a lawsuit filed by South Africa at the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of committing “genocide” against the population of the Gaza Strip.
