The Joint Statement issued by the GCC and the European Union continued: The Joint Council pointed to the restoration of the UN sanctions and nuclear restrictions against Iran. Intensive diplomatic efforts with Iran, including during the UN General Assembly, by four European countries and many international partners, did not lead to conditions for the renewal of UN Security Council Resolution. The Joint Council emphasizes that the return of sanctions does not mean the end of diplomacy with Iran. Our position is that only political and diplomatic efforts can lead to a sustainable solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. The Joint Council appreciates the positive role of Oman’s monarchy in facilitating dialogue between relevant parties as well as continuing European efforts.
The Joint Council emphasized the importance of resuming the full cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and calls on Iran to return to its obligatory legal sanctions and thus build trust and strengthen regional and global security and stability.
