Trump threatened Putin to “Economic War” – Mehr News Agency | Iranian and world news
US President Donald Trump announced Washington’s readiness to impose economic sanctions against Russia if President Vladimir Putin agreed with a ceasefire agreement in the Ukrainian war.
Asked if Putin will face the consequences if Putin fails to agree with the ceasefire, Trump said: “What I have in mind is very serious, but I would like to be resolved.”
“We have economic sanctions,” he said. I’m talking about economic war because we are not going to enter a world war.
The US president has refused to impose economic sanctions against Putin in his latest attempt to end the war for more than three years in Russia and Ukraine. Trump is looking for a bilateral visibility between Putin and Ukrainian President Walodimir Zelnski.
“It will not be an economic war,” Trump added at the White House cabinet meeting. Economic war is unpleasant and will be unpleasant to Russia and I have no interest in it. Zelnsky is also the same.
Despite the slow progress of diplomatic negotiations, the US and European authorities are consulting on possible security guarantees, which may provide Washington (guarantees) for Kiev after reaching a hypothetical agreement, including air support or intelligence cooperation.
Trump has long used economic tools as leverage to pressure the countries involved in the war, and is ready to impose an additional 5 % tariff against Indian exports to the US over the purchase of Moscow oil by Delhi.
India is one of the largest Russian oil consumers. Trump said yesterday that it is ready to use a very powerful tariff mechanism that would be very costly for both Russia and Ukraine.
