The mourning ceremony called “Herwel Tavirij” is held every year on the day of Ashura with the participation of millions of people from all over Iraq and other countries, Mehr News Agency reported.

The movement of mourning bands with unparalleled passion from the Tavirij area near Karbala to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is a reflection of Shiite loyalty and renewal with the ideals of Ashura.

But at this year’s ceremony, images of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the great authority of Iraqi Shiites in the hands of the mourners, attracted much attention.

Other highlights of this year’s ceremony were the simultaneous and numerous flags of Iran and Iraq, as well as images of martyrs’ commanders, including martyr Haj Qasim Soleimani and martyr Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.

One of the prominent Iraqi figures attended by this year’s Herouleh Tavirij is Sheikh Qais al -Khazali, the secretary -general of the resistance group of Asaeb al -Haq.
