Germany buys “Patriot” for Ukraine – Mehr News Agency | Iranian and world news
The German government intends to buy several Patriot defense systems for Kiev after the US decision to suspend some weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, the Mehr News Agency quoted Reuters as saying.
A spokesman for the German government said there are various ways to fill the vacuum of these Patriots, one of which is to consider, buy the system in the US and move it to Ukraine.
He added: “I can confirm that intensive negotiations on this issue are underway.”
According to a German Department of Defense spokesman, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will be on his way to Washington this month for talks with the United States. According to him, the Patriot system is also on the agenda of the trip.
Ukraine, warning of Washington’s decision that will put the Patriot Kiev Air Defense System, said the decision would undermine Kiev’s ability to defend against severe air strikes and Russia’s advance on the battlefield.
The Pentagon’s decision has been linked to US concerns about the analysis of Washington’s arms arsenal. Following the widespread ambiguity in continuing US support for Ukraine under Donald Trump’s presidency, Germany, the largest supporter of Ukraine in Europe, seeks to play a greater role as leading military assistance to Kiev.
Last month, Pistorius made a proposal for Ukraine last month to raise one billion euros.
