Putin: I hope we do not need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine – Mehr News Agency | Iranian and world news
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that there has been no need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine so far and hope that such a necessity will not be created, Mehr News Agency quoted Reuters as saying.
Putin, part of which was published, said that Russia has the power and tools needed to end the Ukraine war in a rational conclusion.
Responding to a question about Ukraine’s attacks on Russia and the possibility of using nuclear weapons, he said: “It was not necessary to use these (nuclear) weapons and I hope it is not needed.”
Putin ordered the start of Russian military operations in Ukraine in February. Despite Kiev’s resistance and Russian attacks, its forces have now occupied about 2 percent of Ukrainian territory, including a significant portion of the southern and eastern territory.
In recent weeks, the Russian president has expressed hope for negotiating with Ukraine to achieve a peaceful solution to the end of the war.
