NATO Secretary -General: Ukrainian forces play a key role in security guarantees
NATO allies have agreed that the Ukrainian army will play a leading role in security guarantees, while European forces may only play a secondary role after signing a peace deal.
“There is still no peace or ceasefire agreement in Ukraine,” said ISNA, NATO Secretary -General Mark Route, at the University of Qiu in Tokyo.
“There are two issues in this case, one that everyone agrees that in the future, the first defense and deterrence line must be for the Ukrainian armed forces to defend it,” he said.
The NATO Secretary -General also noted that there may be other options for Ukrainian security guarantees that were not only by Britain and France.
He added that if European forces are involved in securing security guarantees, they should have a supportive role, not what Paris and London are looking for.
Following the Paris meeting on the “enthusiastic coalition” (to send troops to Ukraine on March 5, French President Emmanuel Macron said that a number of coalition representatives would like to send to Ukraine.
The French president has insisted that the French-English initiative does not mean replacing the Ukrainian forces, and these deterrent forces are not peaceful.
