Bloomberg: Trump is no longer willing to continue supplying electricity for Africa
Bloomberg reported today (Wednesday) that the US initiative to increase electricity supply in Africa was dismantled by the Trump administration for more than a decade.
Almost all power supply programs for Africa are on the list and the majority of employees have been fired, according to ISNA.
Some of the programs that remain in place, especially those related to communication projects with US companies, may be controlled by US agencies.
The African Electricity Initiative, launched in the administration of US President Barack Obama, brought electricity to tens of millions of households across Africa.
“All programs are being investigated to rebuild the US interests,” Bloomberg reported from a US State Department spokesman. “Programs that benefit the national interests will continue and those who are contrary to the US national benefit will be stopped.”
The African Electricity Initiative was under the supervision of the US International Development Agency, which is the first main purpose of measures to reduce the costs of the federal government led by the government’s efficiency department.
