Aliyev: Biden brought the relations between Washington and Baku into crisis
While criticizing the “biased” approaches of the former American president against Baku, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan said that the White House during the presidency of “Joe Biden” involved the relations between Washington and Baku in a crisis.
According to Isna, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev said that in the administration of President Joe Biden and former US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the White House had a biased attitude against Baku, and this caused the US-Azerbaijan relations to enter a crisis.
Aliyev, who was meeting with Johnnie Moore, president of the American Christian Leaders Congress, on the sidelines of the Davos economic summit, considered the re-application of Section 907 of the “Protection of Freedom” law of the United States as showing “ingratitude” of the United States.
Section 907 of the USA Freedom Protection Act is a legal clause approved by the US Senate that prohibits any direct US aid to the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Presidents of the United States from 2001 to 2023, with the permission of the Senate, ignored this embargo.
However, in the fall of 2023, with the approval of the Armenia Support Act in the US Senate, US foreign aid to Baku was once again limited in 2024 and 2025, and even the US President is not allowed to exempt Baku from this restriction.
