The German armed forces are creating a new security unit
The spokesman of the German army announced today (Saturday), the country’s armed forces are considering creating their fourth largest unit to secure critical infrastructure and key military installations across Germany.
According to RCO News Agency, the spokesman of the German army announced in a statement that this new defense unit includes reserve forces and soldiers under a joint command and will be relatively active.
According to the DPA News channel, last year, Boris Pistorius, the Minister of Defense of Germany, ordered to strengthen the defense capabilities of the country’s armed forces with a unified operational command.
The German Defense Minister attributed this to changes in international threats and the need to revive military actions in a war.
The German armed forces, which include the army, navy, and air force, as well as medical and other support services, currently have more than 260,000 personnel, including civilian employees.
As part of the new structure, the new unit, the Homeland Defense Forces, will come under the command of the Army from April 1, 2025, and will have plans for further expansion. This new security unit is formed with the aim of strengthening the capacities of the German armed forces.
Currently, the army consists of 3 units with 20,000 soldiers each.
