Orban: I still hope for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine by Christmas
The Prime Minister of Hungary said that despite the initial opposition of Kyiv, he still hopes for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on the occasion of the New Year.
According to RCO News Agency, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that his proposal for a Christmas truce and a large-scale prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia can still be accepted, despite the initial opposition of Kiev.
On Wednesday, Orban proposed a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine and a Christmas truce with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This proposal was also presented to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky through diplomatic channels, but he rejected it and dismissed it.
On Thursday, Orban’s chief of staff announced that Putin supported Hungary’s proposal for a prisoner exchange, but had no reaction to the ceasefire plan.
According to the Sputnik News agency, Orban told a Hungarian media: “We have done what we could. The possibility of a prisoner exchange and a Christmas truce is on the table… One side accepts the offer and the other, as we see, rejects it. But there are still a few days left until Christmas. We believe that things can change.”
