The spokesperson of the Turkish Foreign Ministry emphasized on Friday that this country is closely following the developments in Idlib in line with its commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Syria.
According to RCO News Agency, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Uncu Kechli wrote on his personal X page on Friday in response to the developments in northern Syria: “Maintaining peace in Idlib and nearby areas – which is at the zero point of our border – for “Turkey is a priority.”
He continued: “Since 2017, several agreements have been reached regarding the Idlib de-escalation zone. “Türkiye carefully implements the requirements of all the agreements to which it was a party.”
Kechli stated: “We have warned on various international platforms that the recent attacks on Idlib have reached a level that undermines the spirit and implementation of the Astana agreements and has caused many casualties among civilians. We have emphasized that these attacks must end. In fact, the recent conflicts have led to the escalation of undesirable tensions in the region.”
He emphasized: “It is very important for Türkiye to prevent further instability and not harm civilians.”
Earlier, the General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces announced in a statement, “The armed forces in the fronts around Aleppo and Idlib province continue to face the fierce attack of the armed terrorist groups affiliated with the terrorist group known as Jabhat al-Nusra, which, in addition to the drone, use all kinds of heavy weapons.” And they use medium and rely on large foreign terrorist groups.
According to this statement, “Syrian armed forces continue to strengthen all points in different axes of conflict with equipment and soldiers to prevent terrorist aggression in those axes and repel their attacks.” The operations of the Syrian armed forces will continue until these terrorist groups are eliminated.”
In another part of his statement, the spokesperson of the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced: “We are closely monitoring the increase in attacks against Turkey and civilians by terrorist groups in Tel Rifat and Manbij, who are trying to take advantage of the current unstable environment.” “We are also concerned that the previous agreements with the relevant parties to end the presence of terrorists in these areas have not yet been implemented.”
In the end, he stated: “We are closely following the developments in line with our commitment to the integrity and territorial integrity of Syria and our priority to fight terrorism.”
