Ukraine’s claim about Russia’s use of North Korean ammunition in the war
Ukrainian military officials claimed that Russia used “North Korean weapons” in one-third of its ballistic missile attacks against Ukraine this year.
According to RCO News Agency, after claiming the presence of North Korean forces in Russia, Ukraine claimed this time that Russia used North Korean weapons containing American parts in its missile attacks.
Ukrainian military officials claimed in an interview with CNN: “Russia has fired about 60 North Korean KN-23 missiles at Ukraine this year, and this includes almost a third of the 194 ballistic missiles it has fired so far in 2024.”
These officials continued to claim that the months of August and September saw an increase in ballistic missile attacks.
Yuriy Ignat, head of public relations for the Ukrainian Air Force, told CNN: “We see that Russia has used ballistic missiles and drone attacks more than cruise missiles since the spring.”
Moscow and North Korea have not reacted to these claims yet.
Also, the “Independent Anti-Corruption Commission of Ukraine” recently claimed in a report: “Critical components used in North Korea’s missiles are produced by nine Western manufacturers, including companies based in the United States, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. “Also, some parts of the KN-23/24 missiles that were analyzed were produced by 2023, indicating a fast delivery pipeline to North Korea.”
Andriy Kolchitskyi, head of the military research laboratory at the Kyiv Institute of Scientific and Forensic Research, says: “All the components of this missile are foreign. All electronics are external. There is nothing Korean about it. “The only thing that belongs to Korea is metal, which quickly rusts and rots.”
An official of Ukraine’s defense intelligence claims, without revealing his name: “Most of the parts of the missiles are western. Probably 70% of them are Americans who belong to famous companies. “They also use parts made in Germany and Switzerland.”
In an interview with CNN, this Ukrainian official claimed: “Russia uses Western parts in lethal weapons and surveillance drones.”
Since the beginning of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine (February 24, 2022), Western countries, including Germany, as the second supporter of Kyiv after the United States, have sent extensive financial aid and military equipment to Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly asked the West to stop the “pumping” of arms to Ukraine and insists that the continuation of such a process will prolong the conflicts and hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.
In the midst of these developments, Westerners are worried about the help of Moscow’s allies. In its first official statement in response to South Korea’s recent claim of sending troops to Russia, North Korea announced that if such is the case, the deployment of this country’s forces in Russia is based on international laws.
