Putin awarded the highest Russian award to Lukashenko
Putin signed a decree awarding the Order of St. Andrew, Russia’s highest order, to his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, who turns 70 today (Friday).
According to Isna, the Kremlin announced on its website: “Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko received this award for outstanding achievements in the development of alliance relations and strategic partnership between Russia and Belarus, as well as for strengthening friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries.”
The Kremlin website also stated: “The awarding of this badge also emphasized Lukashenko’s main personal contribution to the creation and effective functioning of the Union Government.”
According to Tass News agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin also wrote in his telegram that friendly and good relations with Lukashenko have passed the test.
He continued: “I am sure that we will continue our efforts to strengthen the fruitful cooperation between Russia and Belarus.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also noted that the presidents of Russia and Belarus are superior in protecting the interests of their countries, and this allows them to protect the interests of the Union state as well.
