The stabbing incident in Germany is probably terrorist
According to a German official, the recent stabbing incident in Germany is “probably” terrorist in nature.
According to RCO News Agency, Earlier it was reported that according to the German police, 3 people were killed and 4 others were injured in a stabbing incident in the city of “Zolingen” located in the west of this country.
In a report posted on social media, the local police confirmed the death of three people and said that four others were seriously injured.
After the incident, the police announced on the X social network: “Our officers have been deployed in large numbers and are looking for the perpetrator.”
According to reports, the attack happened at 21:45 (Friday) local time.
But as several hours passed and the search for the unknown attacker continued in Germany, an official said this evening – Saturday – that the attack was “probably a terrorist attack”.
According to a recent report by the American News agency “Reuters”, the police have so far detained a 15-year-old person and are investigating whether there is a connection between this teenager and the attacker.
Meanwhile, Markus Kaspers, an official at the prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf, told an afternoon news conference that the possibility of “terrorism” could not be ruled out. He introduced the reason for this conclusion, the lack of recognition of any other motive and said: “It seems that the victims are not related to each other.”
At the same briefing, Torsten Felice, a police official, confirmed that the assailant appeared to be aiming for the throats of his victims.
The police announced in a statement: “Investigation and search to find the possible perpetrators and the reasons for this crime continues in full.”
The police also announced that the incident happened late Friday when the man attacked several people with a knife and his motive is unknown.
In this regard, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz wrote on X social network: “The criminal must be quickly arrested and punished according to the law.”
German Interior Minister Nancy Pfizer also said in a statement: “The security authorities are doing everything they can to arrest this person and investigate the reason for the attack on the market square in Solingen, where live bands were playing. “
Tim Kurzbach, the mayor of Zollinger, also wrote in a message on social networks that the attendees of this festival are in shock, horror and sadness.
The attack happened during a festival on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the founding of the city.
The police surrounded the square on Saturday and passers-by placed candles and flowers outside the barriers.
Authorities canceled the rest of the weekend festival.
According to Reuters, fatal stabbings and shootings are relatively uncommon in Germany. The government announced earlier this month that it wants to tighten rules on knives that can be carried in public by reducing the maximum length allowed.
On the other hand, according to the BBC, this attack happens while a little more than a week ago, the German Interior Minister called for tougher measures to curb knife crimes.
In June, a 29-year-old policeman died after being stabbed in Mannheim during an attack by right-wing demonstrators. A knife attack on a train in 2021 also injured a number of people.
North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Raoul visited the scene early Saturday and told reporters that the targeted attack was an act against human life, but declined to speculate on the motive behind the attack.
Solingen, known for its knife industry, is a city with a population of about 165,000.
