Burrell expressed concern about the reduction of German military support to Ukraine
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday that since Germany remains the sole leader of the European Union at this point in time, it is concerned about a possible reduction in its military support for Ukraine.
According to Isna, Burrell said: “The country that supports Ukraine the most is Germany, much, much more than France… and what is very worrying is the announcement that Germany will reduce its military support in the coming years.”
According to Sputnik, Burrell made these comments at a conference on the future of the European Union held in Spain. Last week, the media reported that Germany is reducing its military aid to Ukraine because no new funds have been allocated for this purpose.
German Chancellor Olaf Schulz’s decree, however, confirmed that previously approved equipment would continue to be delivered, although additional requests from the German Defense Ministry would no longer be approved.
Schultz, of course, assured that Germany will remain the largest European donor to Ukraine.
Western countries have increased their military and financial aid to Ukraine since the start of Russian military operations in 2022. Russia has repeatedly said that sending weapons to Ukraine would hinder the resolution of the conflict and involve NATO countries directly in the war.
