If you get lost in Iceland’s freezing cold, a shelter like the Skyly Hut can be a lifesaver. The word “Skýli” in Icelandic means shelter and this structure can host 15 climbers at the same time. The design of four gabled roofs and angular steel facade make it look like a modern tent. The bright blue color of the hut, in addition to being in harmony with nature, can also be easily seen in the rough mountain landscape. All components of the hut are designed as prefabricated so that it can be transported by helicopter and assembled on site; A process that takes about two to three days. (Yanko Design)

A Swedish company has designed the skyly shelter for pristine environments using sustainable and resistant materials. Skyly is used for areas where environmental protection is of great importance. The interior is clad in laminated timber (CLT) and includes folding beds, water, electricity and emergency equipment. Large triangular windows under the roof provide a direct view of nature.
Skylly’s exterior is made of colored steel, which is produced using Swedish rapeseed oil instead of petroleum derivatives, and is resistant to corrosion, cold and discoloration. In the space between the steel and wooden walls, there is a space for drying clothes and installing a compost toilet. Rainwater is collected from sloping roofs and stored in self-draining tanks to be purified for washing or drinking.

Solar panels and internal batteries provide the energy needed for lighting and charging devices in Skyly. On days without sun, the hand generator acts as an alternative source and in case of emergency, it is also used as a transmitter of help messages. In addition to lightness, the wooden and steel structure provides good thermal insulation, and the triple-glazed windows prevent cold penetration.
The skyly hut is installed on stilts to maintain balance on the uneven ground and cause minimal damage to nature. The bright blue color of the ceiling is also inspired by the northern lights and is considered a symbol of safety and shelter in the heart of the cold Scandinavian nature.
By combining technology, sustainability and smart design, the Skyly Hut offers a new concept of shelter in harsh conditions; A safe place that is built in a few days and stays in the heart of nature for years. You can also share your opinion about this shelter with Kojaro.
