As the world’s first floating city, the “OCEANIX” project, designed by the Danish group “BIG” and supported by the United Nations, is a big step towards adapting to climate change. This city is being built off the coast of Busan, South Korea and is designed to withstand the strongest storms. The main idea of this project is based on creating a sustainable, modular and self-sufficient habitat that coexists with water instead of building artificial lands. (Yanko Design)

Each unit of Oceanix City consists of two-hectare neighborhoods that accommodate 300 people, and by connecting several neighborhoods, larger villages are formed. Underwater farming systems, greenhouses and clean energy sources allow residents to live without dependence on land. Using bamboo as the main material not only ensures the stability of the structure, but also minimizes the carbon footprint of the project.

The architect of the project, “Bjarke Ingels”, considers the goal of Oceanix to be a model for future cities; Where man and nature coexist in a dynamic balance. He says that the sea can be not only a climate threat but also the future of human life.

The city of Oceanics, with its facilities such as schools, markets, public squares and cultural spaces, links social and urban life to the marine environment. This project represents a new type of architecture that was formed in response to environmental challenges and can be a global model for sustainable urban development in the age of climate change.
What do you think about the Oceanix project? Do you consider the construction of such cities as an effective solution to deal with climate crises? Please tell me about your point of view.
