A historical photo recorded by “Luigi Pesha” is considered the oldest known image of the tomb of Darius in Naghse Rostam. This photo, which dates back to the middle of the 19th century, captures a view of the rock face and details of the sculptures in the same area.
Luigi Pesche, an Italian photographer of the 19th century, was one of the first to document Iran’s historical monuments with a camera. Recording this image is particularly important in the field of photography history and cultural heritage studies, because before the introduction of photography, only paintings and descriptive texts were the sources of images.
