The insistence of the municipality on the construction of a strange gate; Lawlessness continues in Darband

Darband entertainment area of ​​Tehran should be considered the center of urban lawlessness and violations. In the days when some people rent parking spaces near the entrance of this axis by occupying the street and restaurants are carving the mountain and creating space for themselves, Tehran Municipality is also building a strange gate at the entrance of Darband.

Darband is one of the most famous entertainment centers in the north of Tehran. The busyness of this axis has caused any person with the motive of making profit to engage in all kinds of illegal behavior in this natural and historical axis. These days, apparently organized people occupy all the car parking spaces near the Darband entrance and give them to tourists at exorbitant prices. On the other hand, Darband restaurants, especially its famous and big restaurants, are the absolute owners of the region. They easily allow their customers’ cars to enter the pedestrian walkway, block a part of the path with customers’ car park, and some are adding mountains to their restaurant environment.

In such a situation, the municipality of the first district of Tehran is building a gate at the entrance of the Darband axis, in a strange plan, violating the law of preservation of national registers. A gate that the Cultural Heritage Department of Shemiranat has repeatedly emphasized on the illegality of its construction; But it seems that the municipality, like other beneficiaries of Darband, continues with its plans without paying attention to the rules and regulations. The construction of this gate, which the municipality considers cultural, is against the laws of cultural heritage and has disturbed the privacy of two nationally registered works, “Climber Statue” and “Historical Axis of Darband – North”.

Morteza Nikro, the director of Tehran Shemiranat’s cultural heritage department, had previously told “Kejaro” about the construction of this gate:

Darband axis is a national registration axis. So far, we have repeatedly announced orally and in writing to the Municipality of Tehran Region 1 that for any construction in this axis, they must be in harmony with the cultural heritage; Nevertheless, the municipality continues to work. Based on this, in April, a letter was issued stating that Darband’s river axis is in the national register, and for building there, they must obtain a cultural heritage inquiry. So far, a letter has been sent to the mayor of Region 1 to stop the construction of the gate for the Darband tourist area. But this institution continues to work.

On the other hand, there is a concern that after the construction of this gate, the municipality will take the entrance and close this recreational and sports route of Tehran at will; This happened before and the public rights of the citizens of Tehran in the freedom to use public places have been taken away. The gate, which the mayor of the first district of Tehran considers to be a redesign of the historical gates of Tehran and a cultural action, these days has not only created car traffic in Darband, but has also blocked the passage of tourists. Currently, there is only a very narrow axis in this gate under construction for the entry of cars and tourists, and the present agents who are busy selling parking spaces around the statue square, most of the time block the path of pedestrians. The incident that happened before the completion of the gate shows how much problems will be caused by the plan that Tehran Region 1 Municipality claims to be carried out by the best experts.

Darband Gate has no history and threatens the history and cultural heritage of Tehran. However, despite the warnings, the factors involved continue to build it regardless. By installing an explanatory program on this building blocking the cultural and natural landscape of Darband, the Municipality of Region 1 considers this plan a new event and introduces it as the cultural tourism development plan of Darband. Although, based on the current situation of Darband’s famous axis, instead of development, it needs to be monitored so that the beneficiaries do not repeatedly destroy its privacy and landscape; An action that the municipality is repeating now.

It should be noted that “Kajaro” is following up on the case of violation of the privacy of nationally registered works by Tehran Municipality by building this gate through the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of Tehran Province.
