Archaeologists have managed to discover hundreds of amazing ancient objects that are more than 3000 years old. These artifacts belong to a Bronze Age city in northern China.
Chinese archaeologists have discovered fascinating artifacts including drinking vessels, painted pottery, decorative turquoise vessels, and jade carvings in northern China. For example, what you see in the main image of the text is a bronze bird with pieces of turquoise stone as decoration. These cases date back to 3 thousand years ago, the Shang Dynasty. This dynasty ruled northern China from 1600 to 1046 BC.
Discover amazing artifacts from a Bronze Age city in northern China
Interestingly, people living in this ancient city belonging to the Bronze Age have been finding antiquities in their lands since the 1940s. Of course, at that time it was not clear to which period the discovered objects belonged. However, now with the discovery of a Bronze Age residential area with an area of 3 square kilometers, many of the previous cases have been identified.
All the things needed for human habitation have been found in this area, including large-scale structures and a number of graves. The newly discovered Bronze Age city is located in China’s Shaanxi Province. The capital of the Shang dynasty (which is the first Chinese dynasty with written documents) was located in this province, and a total of 13 other dynasties also chose their capitals from this province over the course of 1000 years.
It is for this reason that Shaanxi province is known as the cradle of ancient Chinese civilization and many ancient artifacts have been found in it. Archaeologists began excavating the Zhaigou area in late spring last year. So far, they have been able to identify 9 graves belonging to rich people. Out of these 9 graves, 7 are quadrangular and have corridors. Experts suspect that these are related to local leaders. In ancient China, having a corridor on the way to the grave meant a person’s high social status, and ordinary people did not have the right to build it.
The center of the Bronze Age city of China was built using rammed earth method. In this method, a mixture of related soil and other materials is compressed and placed in a mold. Various buildings with different functions have also been discovered in this area, among which handicraft workshops and pottery kilns can be mentioned. Several bronze pieces of horse-drawn carriages have also been discovered in this area, and the remains of horses can also be identified.
This issue can well show how the chariot appeared and evolved in China and how it was buried with an important person. Since last year, archaeologists have managed to discover more than 200 valuable ancient objects. One of the interesting items discovered in the graves is lacquerware. Earlier, these dishes were seen in other important centers of the Shang Dynasty.
Experts consider the ancient artifacts discovered in this Bronze Age city in northern China to be amazing. They believe that this city was once the capital of a rival kingdom of the Shang Dynasty and was later occupied. Although the ancient works found tell about the high art of this region; But we must not forget that China had a completely hierarchical society in the Bronze Age. For this reason, only nobles were allowed access to bronze artifacts and these people used them only for religious ceremonies.
