It is not possible to activate the dark mode of the browser for all sites on Android; But Google Chrome has introduced an option that makes this possible.
Since the advent of the Internet, white background websites have been bothering users. And while a few sites have added the ability to add dark mode to sites, many of them lack such a feature. This means that even if you activate the dark mode on your Android phone, some sites will not change to dark mode.
Fortunately, there is a solution for Android users. Using a new flag in the Google Chrome browser that was recently added to the test version of this browser, users can activate an option that enables the dark mode of the browser for all sites. This flag is called “Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents” and it can enable dark mode even for sites that do not have this mode.
So whether your phone system is set to dark mode or not, all the websites you open with Chrome browser will be dark by default. This is a good option for users who, for whatever reason, prefer to use other apps on their phone, such as messengers, in the on mode.
Advantages of using dark mode in mobile web browsing
In addition to reducing the strain on the user’s eyes, browsing the web with dark mode on the mobile phone also has positive effects on the phone’s battery life; Especially if your phone uses an OLED display. Dark mode reduces screen brightness and contrast, thereby reducing eye strain. Excessive exposure to light from bright screens can lead to computer vision syndrome.
Users who own phones with OLED displays can also increase the battery life of their phones thanks to this mode. In old screens, each pixel determines its own light, which is completely different from LCD screens. In LCD displays, pixels are illuminated by a backlight. Therefore, the darker the pixels on the old screens, the less energy will be consumed, and this means that the battery consumption will also decrease.
How to enable dark browser mode for all sites?
As mentioned above, the Dark Mode of the Android operating system can turn the user interface of many applications into a dark state, including sites that support the dark theme by default. But those sites that do not support this feature will still be visible.
If you have the latest trial version of Chrome browser installed on your Android phone, you can even darken those sites. To do this, just follow the steps below:
- Run the browser on your phone.
- In the address bar, type chrome://flags and press the enter key.
- In the search bar at the top of the page, search for Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents.
- Now, just tick Enable at the end of this option and restart the application to activate this mode.
