YouTube has introduced a new feature for its TV application that allows users to improve the quality of old videos with low resolution using artificial intelligence.
According to Engget, YouTube is rolling out a series of updates to improve the visual quality of its television applications. Among these capabilities is the automatic improvement of the quality of videos with artificial intelligence, which allows users to view old videos with higher quality and resolution.
You can improve the quality of old YouTube videos with artificial intelligence
Initially, YouTube will upscale videos uploaded at resolutions below 1080p to HD quality, and will add support for 4K upscaling in the future.
Of course, the original files and video resolution options will still be preserved. Content creators can opt out of this feature, which YouTube calls Super Resolution, as well as automatic audio settings.
YouTube has also announced that it is working with a select group of producers to test the possibility of uploading larger videos to achieve higher quality. YouTube content creators will soon be able to upload thumbnails with higher quality. For this purpose, YouTube increases the maximum allowed size of thumbnail files from 2 MB to 50 MB.
The senior manager of YouTube’s product management in the TV department said: “Viewers will soon be able to see interactive and attractive previews of their favorite channels on the home page and move between them, a feature that increases content discovery and user interaction.”
YouTube has also added contextual search to its TV apps. Using this feature, when you search for something from a content producer’s page, videos belonging to the same channel will be displayed in the search results priority.
Considering that more people watch YouTube on TV than mobile users, it makes sense that the platform would want to invest more in improving the user experience on the TV version.
