Oracle and Nvidia build America’s largest artificial intelligence supercomputer

Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, announced that the company, in cooperation with Oracle, is going to build the largest artificial intelligence supercomputer in America for the Department of Energy. This news was announced at Nvidia’s first GTC AI conference held in Washington DC.

According to Nvidia’s official announcement, Huang announced that he is planning to build the largest artificial intelligence supercomputer in the United States for the Department of Energy. Nvidia and Oracle, along with the federally funded Argonne National Laboratory, will build a total of seven new AI supercomputers.

The US Department of Energy is building several artificial intelligence supercomputers

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said at a press conference after Huang’s keynote speech: “A large portion of this computing power will be used for commercial applications and to support American businesses.” He also added that a significant but smaller part is also used for scientific research and national security.

According to the US Secretary of Energy, the construction of these supercomputers will begin immediately, and the initial computing power may be available to the Ministry of Energy from next week. The first of seven supercomputers is expected to be delivered in 2026, and the largest will be ready for use later.

Chris Wright also added that he has personally reached out to some of the major industry players to form partnerships to dramatically increase the Department of Energy’s scientific and defense capabilities.

Although Donald Trump was not personally present at the conference, Jensen Huang thanked his administration in part of his speech. Huang added that he will join the president on a trip to South Korea, where Trump is scheduled to hold an important meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This meeting will determine the business relations between the two countries, and of course it will have a great impact on Nvidia’s business.

Of course, Nvidia and Oracle are not alone in building artificial intelligence supercomputers for the US Department of Energy, and AMD has recently signed a similar contract with the Department of Energy.
