Adobe kicked off its annual ‘Max’ event, unveiling new generative AI capabilities and tools for its Creative Cloud apps, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Lightroom. The company also unveiled the new Firefly Image 5 model.
According to The Verge, Adobe is now allowing Photoshop users to use third-party artificial intelligence models such as Gemina 2.5 Flash and Flux.1 Kontext alongside the Firefly model for Generative Fill. After selecting an image and providing a text command (such as describing an object to insert or replacing an object or person with something else), users can switch between these models.
Adobe’s new artificial intelligence features for Photoshop and Premiere Pro
Adobe has introduced a new tool for its Premiere Pro software that automatically isolates people and objects in video frames. This feature, called AI Object Mask and available in public beta, automates the rotoscoping process. It aims to simplify processes such as color correction, blurring and adding visual effects to moving backgrounds, as there is no need to manually mask subjects with the Pen tool.
A new beta feature called Assisted Culling is also being launched for the Lightroom app. This tool can filter large collections of photos based on various criteria, such as focus, angles, and degree of resolution, and suggest the best photos for editing to photographers.
Adobe has also added a new generative AI capability to the Adobe Express cloud design platform. Adobe describes the tool as a “conversational creative agent” that allows people of any skill level to quickly create visual content without needing to understand design jargon or complex tools. In the video below, you can see how to work with this interesting tool:
Adobe also announced at the Max event that Premiere’s video editing tools will be integrated with YouTube Shorts. This action is done in line with YouTube’s competition with platforms such as TikTok and Rails Instagram. YouTube creators will soon be able to access the mobile version of Premiere directly in the Shorts environment by clicking the “Edit in Adobe Premiere” button.

This integration will include Adobe’s professional editing tools and Firefox-based artificial intelligence capabilities. In addition, exclusive options such as a collection of effects, pre-sets and transitions will be available.
Along with all these changes, the Firefly artificial intelligence model has also been upgraded to the “Firefly Image 5” version. Adobe says the new model can produce high-resolution images so you don’t need to upscale. Also, this model has been optimized to improve its ability to render humans.
