After raising the price of Xbox Series X/S consoles for consumers earlier this year, Microsoft has now raised the price of hardware for developers as well. The company has confirmed that the price of the Xbox Development Kit (XDK) has increased from $1,500 to $2,000, which is a 33 percent increase.
A Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge: “This price adjustment reflects macroeconomic changes.” He did not confirm the exact figure reported by the site, but added, “We remain committed to providing quality tools and support for developers.”
The increase in the price of consoles for consumers was also done for similar economic reasons. These increases are probably a reaction to the 30% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on imports from China. The Verge website reported that the prices of the kits have increased in America, Europe and other parts of the world.

The kit includes 40GB of GDDR6 memory (compared to 16GB in the standard Xbox Series X/S model), and also has more processing units, three USB ports, debugging tools, a front-facing display, and other features not found in the consumer model.
Microsoft has also increased the price of Xbox Game Pass and its Ultimate subscription has increased by 50% and has reached $30 per month. The company emphasized that the price increase “is not pleasant for anyone”. Microsoft CFO Amy Hood is said to have ordered increased margins across all divisions, including Xbox.
Microsoft is going to release its next financial report in less than a week and announce the details of its latest quarterly earnings.
