The Crew 2 offline mode is activated; Don’t worry about game servers shutting down anymore

An offline mode for The Crew 2 has recently become available, ensuring that this racing game will remain available for years to come.

Of course, the online portion will still be disabled if Ubisoft decides to shut down the servers, as happened with the previous game. However, player feedback led to the addition of this feature, and the possibility of an immediate server shutdown in the near future is unlikely. This move is kind of a response to the Stop Killing Games campaign, which was raised after the servers of the first episode of The Crew were shut down and it became unplayable.

This mode, which is called Hybrid Mode, was added to the game about a year after its official introduction, and in offline mode, Internet connection is not mandatory, which makes the problems of the first part not occur. Of course, the offline experience is a bit more limited because features like the Race Creator, car layout editor, leaderboards, and statistics menu have been removed. Also, any car packs, season passes, or rewards you’ve unlocked in Ubisoft Connect must first be received online before they can be used offline.

Also, online and offline modes have separate storage systems. You can take your online progress offline, but offline progress cannot be brought back online. Ubisoft explains:

When you select Export to Offline Save, your Crew Credits balance will be included in the offline save file. This inventory can be used to purchase items that can be used offline, such as cars in the offline catalog. Some items that can only be purchased from the online store (for example, decorative items and some bundles) cannot be used in offline mode. If you make a new purchase after exporting, you must export your online save again to update the offline inventory.

An offline mode for The Crew Motorfest is also in development, but a release date has yet to be announced. Finally, although this change may not have happened without the pressures of the Stop Killing Games campaign, it is commendable that Ubisoft has followed through on its promises to prevent permanent shutdown of games.

Crew 2 is available for Xbox 8th and 9th generation consoles, PlayStation and PC.
