When “Summary” (2013) arrived, the horror genre is in one of its underprivileged periods; The days when the cinema was filled with stereotypical, repetitive, and morals. James Van, with his exemplary skill in the game with rhythm, sound, shadow and light, showed that fear can still be “narrative” in its essence; Something that should be born from personality and space, not from cinematic tricks and successive jumps. “Summon”, with the tempting phrase “based on a real story,” was able to bring the audience lost to the genre. Not only did the film become a critical and commercial success, it also founded the foundation of a new cinematic world. The “Summon” series now has three direct sequels and five sub -versions – and one informal version – which we have ranked in this article.
The cinematic world of “summoning” is not perfect, no matter how brilliant and breathtaking works are filled with, it is filled with inappropriate, poor and “waste” projects. On the occasion of the release of “Summon 4: The Last Ceremony” that completed the Arc of Ed and Loren Warren, we have taken a look at one of the most influential contemporary scary cinema franchises.
Ranking movie “Summon” series
10- Annabelle (Annabelle)
- Year of release: 2014
- Director: John R. Leonti
- Cast: Annabel Wallis, Ark Horton, Al -Woodard, Tony Amandula, Brian Haw, Eric Ladin, Ivandar Broker, Gabriel Bitman
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 5.5 out of 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 28 out of 100
After the astonishing success of the first part of “Summon”, the next step of this cinematic world was not exactly what fans were expecting. Instead of a direct, well -made sequence, the Warner Brothers decided to make Spin -efficiently creating the character of Annabel – or the same scary doll. Annable’s adventures take place a year before the “summoning” events, and the story of a couple named Mia (Annabel Wallis) and John (Ward Horton) and their baby Lia; A family conquered by an evil creature emitted from the same old doll.
Annabel was Warner’s first attempt to expand the franchise, but their questionable approach took the film to disgust. They made two mistakes: The first was the absence of the Warren. Without two key characters “summoning”, the signature of the collection was also lost and gave the stereotypes. And the latter, the director’s choice! John R. Leonti is a good cameraman and had a brilliant performance in “Summon”, but his directing history was almost awful. He had made one of the worst cinematic adaptations of video games with Mortal Kombat (1997), and his sequel to “Butterfly” was a disaster. Despite these failures, he was constructed by Anabel to show again that he had little talent in filmmaking.
Leonti’s lack of creativity and inability to manage fictional elements and build a coherent work is clearly visible in Annabel. Compared to “summoning”, Anabel was a crucial and formulating work that was more likely to hurt television than the big cinema. Leonti also causes the other weaknesses of the film: Highly weak players (with the exception of Alphari Vodard) and his jumpers are often unintentionally laughing. Annabel has a few effective moments, including the final shot but a sloping and ridiculous film that can firmly be the worst film in this cinematic world.
9- Curse of Laurona (The Curse of La Llorona)

- Year of release: 2019
- Director: Michael Chavez
- Cast: Linda Cardeliani, Patricia Velascoz, Sean Patrick Thomas, Raymond Cruise, Patricia Velacos, Tony Amandula
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 5.3 from 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 26 out of 100
“Curse Liveona” is not one of the official films in the world of “summoning”, but during the release, Warner tried to stick the film in every way. In addition, references and signs cannot be ignored. The film was made by Michael Chavez, who later became the main leader of the series, making the next two films “Summon” as well as “Nuns 2”. Tony Amandula once again plays the role of Perez’s father (one of the main characters in the film “Annabel”), and in the story, Warren also refers to the Warren. Responding to the question of why “Liveon Curse” is not part of the cinematic world, Michael Chavez said it was because one of the main franchise producers, Peter Travel, did not play a role in the project. However, if you have watched the movie, you will soon find out why Warner insists on the film to be an independent work.
The story is about a police officer named Anna Garcia (Linda Cardeliani,) whose children are targeted by an evil spirit named Luroona. Anna, however, is not supposed to give up easily and prepares her home with the help of a former priest named Rafael (Raymond Cruise) to fight this devil. Linda Cardaliani has made all the efforts to save the film and Raymond Cruise is good too; In addition, Michael Chavez should be admired to go to a different idea, something that was not seen in “summoning”.
Unfortunately, the positive points of the film are over here. Liveona Curse may not be the most frustrating part, but in the scary aspect, it is undoubtedly the most impressive version of the franchise. Everything about the evil evil of this film is neutral. Liveona doesn’t scare anyone, it doesn’t become a nightmare. The scary moments of “Annabel” were sometimes funny, but here everything is superficial and no sense to us. The weakness of the script cannot be ignored. The story lacks authenticity, excitement, and most importantly, is the usual. All of our questions are answered very quickly and easily so that the narrative will continue to be surprised. The Curse of Lioreon is not offensive, but it looks extra, and that’s exactly why we should be summoned to be removed from the cinematic world as a right decision.
8. The Nun (The Nun)

- Year of release: 2018
- Director: Corinne Hardy
- Cast: Tisisa Farmiga, Damian Bicheir, Charlotte Hope, Bonnie Aronz, Ingid Bisu, Sandra Telens, Manula Cyokor, Annie Sava
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 5.3 from 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 24 out of 100
Warner was expected to make the right -wing feedback from Annabel and make the next spin -off of the collection more obsessive, especially when we found out that Wallock was in the middle. It was a brief presence in Summon 2, but it was enough to conquer the audience’s heart. He was undoubtedly the best option for a sub -version, but unfortunately the “nun” makes all his steps wrong. The adventures begin with the sister of Irin (Tisa Farmiga) and the father of Burke (Damian Bicheir). The Vatican sends the two to Romania to investigate the suspicious killings of a remote monastery; Where the invisible creature has the nuns one by one. This initial idea on paper had the potential to become a scary Gothic legend.
The nun is a more respected effort than Anabel. The film has a special visual style and, with the help of lighting and coloring, creates a cold atmosphere that is in line with the story environment. There are a few good scary scenes in the film that revolve around Wallock. However, the “nun” has some major drawbacks that make it a boring experience. The rhythm of the film is extremely slow, and the way the film wants to scare us is both stereotyped and often has nothing to do with the evil of the story. The characters are also superficial and they are abundant dialogues. In other words, the film has no energy and dramatic stretching, and watching it is overwhelming.
We expect the film to be a strong and scary devil to have a strong presence in the story, but Wallock is only in the final 10 minutes of the film; And, of course, this was not what the teasers and posters of the movie had promised. In addition, the film, with additional explanations, will destroy the exciting mystery that had made “summoning 2” so great. The nun has proven to everyone that “summoning” is one of the most contradictory franchises in the scary genre. This is not the worst movie in the series, but it is wasting all its potential and what is more scary than that?
7- Nuns 2 (The Nun 2)

- Year of release: 2023
- Director: Michael Chavez
- Cast: Taisa Farmiga, Jonas Blocat, Storm Reed, Anna Papopul, Bonnie Aronz, Kaitlin Rose Downey, Viera Farmiga
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 5.6 out of 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 51 out of 100
Critics and fans gave the “nun” to the lowest privileges, but given its astonishing sales, there was no reason for Warner to release it. On the other hand, Wallock is truly evil evil, and its Gothic aesthetics is enough to distinguish this crowded franchise. Warner assigned the second part of Michael Chavez, who was “summoned: the devil forced me”, and Warner hoped to make “Nun 2” a better work. But what happened? Was there any progress?
In the second part, we will be accompanied by the sister of Irin (Taia Farmiga); He realizes that Vallock has survived the clashes and conquered Maurice. He now has to find Maurice and stop this evil nun once and for all. The Nun 2 is a little more acceptable than the first film, but not enough. Yes, we have a few anxious scenes here, and Wallock is given more space (especially in the lower sections), the characters are not superficial as before, but Michael Chavez with his conservatives. He is not a filmmaker who seeks to change the formulas and does not believe in trial and error. Therefore, “Nuns 2” is also unjustified and wasted, and it wasted Wallock.
Regardless of the business debate, why the creators decided to continue the story of the first film, there is a question because Irin and Morris’s sister are extremely passive characters and have no appeal. The addition of new actors like Storm Reed doesn’t work. These characters have most damaged the story of the story, but not the stupid ending of the film, which made both the end of the first episode and questioned the franchise’s entire story. When the film is over, she feels that she is forced to make and no one has been passionate about producing it. Nuns 2 sounded alarm and warns that the collection is approaching the end of the road and has nothing to offer.
6. Summon: The last ceremony (The Conjuring: Last Rites)

- Year of release: 2025
- Director: Michael Chavez
- Cast: Vira Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Mia Tammineson, Ben Hardy, Shannon Cook, Steve Coletter, Eliot Kuwan, Kate Fahi
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 6.3 from 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 59 out of 100
Summon: The Last Ceremony is a more coherent film than Michael Chavez’s previous film, but it cannot be considered a step forward. Chavez has clearly decided to stay in James Van’s orbit and is now trying to reproduce it with minimal change. At first glance, he takes the right path: The film has many appearances to the first two, but with a careful look at his insufficiency; Here’s no brilliant and calculated rhythm or that brilliant suspension of James One versions. The film, however, pursues a more emotional goal: a magnificent farewell to Warren. However, do not forget that we haven’t gone to the “Last Ceremony” to watch a scratch drama, we want to watch a terrible movie and this movie is by no means scary.
The last ceremony »is the same as the familiar formula of the collection; Two parallel narratives that are supposed to come together: Warren on one side, and a family conquered on the other. This structure was great in the hands of James Van. But in the Chavez version, it has come out of the water. In the second half of the film, things are getting worse, and as we are waiting for the peak of this franchise, we are confronted with a high degree of “summoning”. The Smorel family, who is the emotional axis of the story, never goes beyond the level of the brigade; We’re going to worry about them, but the film never gives us anything so that we can care about their fate.
“The Last Ceremony” is a moderate film. It does not destroy the legacy of the collection and has a respectable position compared to the sub -versions. Farewell to Ed and Loren Warren is dramatic and a bit bitter and sweet. The film, however, is overwhelmed by the past and is afraid of any transformation. For the loyal fans of the collection, the “Last Ceremony” is a farewell to popular figures who have followed them for years, but cannot be overcome by the fact that the fourth part is a repetitive and conservative.
5. Annabelle Comes Home comes

- Year of release: 2019
- Director: Gary Daberman
- Cast: Macina Grace, Madison Iceman, Katie Seraf, Patrick Wilson, Viera Farmiga, Alexander Ward, Luka Lohan
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 5.9 out of 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 64 out of 100
“Annabel comes home” goes to the mysterious wheelchair room, where they hold a variety of conquered objects; But unfortunately, there is no news of their direct confrontation with Anabel. The story takes place after the events of Anabel, and this time the daughter of the Warren, Judy – and two nurses – are at the center of attention. The three accidentally break down the room full of cursed objects, and so the so -called hell door open. The film has a teenage sensation and does not try to be serious or very scary.
Gary Daberman also uses the main doll in a different way and refuses to make extra explanations and margins. The only significant disadvantage of the film is that they are wasting a golden opportunity. Ed and Lauren Warren are in the first screen, but then they completely disappear from the story. Fans have long been waiting for the Warren battle to fight with Annabel, so seeing the film is so close and then completely abandoning the idea. In spite of this lost opportunity, “Annabel comes home” is a fantasy and special work in this franchise and proves that “summoning” can still surprise us by injecting a little diversity.
4- Summon: The devil made me (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do)

- Year of release: 2021
- Director: Michael Chavez
- Cast: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, John Nobel, Roya O’Connor, Sarah Catherine, Hook Julian, Helif Stirling
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 6.2 of 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 56 out of 100
Expectations were very high from the third summoning film. Five years had passed since the previous film, and James Van had no other guidance rudder, and this great task had been entrusted to Michael Chavez. The result, however, is a film that, despite all its defects, acts somewhat ambitious and is distinguished from other parts of the series. The story begins with Ed and Loren, who is performing a young boy. The ceremony ends when Arn Sharin Johnson (Roya O’Connor) wants the devil to conquer him. When the Warren realizes that there is no time in the story, they enter a dark, scary journey to discover the truth.
The film never approaches the quality of the first two parts, but it takes a few bold steps and departs from the franchise’s established rules, which helps to provide an experience that you will not find elsewhere. For example, the rhythm and structure of the film are quite different. Usually the “summoning” is slowly starting and gradually moving towards the entry of Warren into the house of the family involved. In this film, the wheels are with the family from the beginning, and then try to prove Arn’s innocence, because the devil has forced him to kill an innocent man. The third episode has a fast rhythm, the fears come together and we have a few stressful scenes, especially the Forensic Refrigerator Sequence, which is one of the highlights of the film.
The main threat of the film is also different. This time the original evil character is much more humane than you expect; And that, Ed and Loren gives a brilliant opportunity to fight another talented actor instead of facing a completely -based monster -based monster. However, “Satan made me forced me”, compared to other main works of the series, is probably the weakest in characterization. Although Ed and Lauren are as convincing as always, their relationship does not evolve and nothing is added. The main puzzle of the film is also effective, but it doesn’t have much details to analyze. These weaknesses can be ignored because the third part at least tries to not duplicate and get out of the shade of James Van.
3- Annabel: Annabelle: Creation)

- Year of release: 2017
- Director: David F. Sandberg
- Cast: Stephanie Sigman, Talingsa Beitman, Lulu Wilson, Anthony Lapalia, Miranda Otto, Anabel Wallis, Joseph Boshara, Brian Haw
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 6.5 out of 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 70 out of 100
At low quality Anabel, even a medium sequence was considered to be progress. The Warner brothers, however, acted more cleverly, and his goal was to make the sequel to a big and dramatic leap. For this reason, David F. Seized Sandberg; The emerging director who was considered in the dark (2016). Sandberg did not disappoint the fans and made a film that would completely forget the previous version.
The pre -event narrates the story of two orphaned sisters, Jennis (Talingsa Bitman) and Linda (Lulu Wilson), who, along with four other daughters and their supervisor, arrives at a new house offered by the Malinsin family. They soon realize that Mr. Malins is not the only resident of this house and that their lives and lives are in serious danger. The film is a progress in all areas, and scary moments are not stereotypical.
The film also has an interesting acting team and six of their nine main actors are children; The risk that answered. Almost all of these kids have played a good role, especially Taleta Beitman, who succeeds in making Jennis vulnerable, promising, and at the same time horror. “Annabel: Creation” was exactly what we needed after the first film; A movie that may not take much risks but does it right. The film is not specifically the size of the first two parts of the series, but it proves that the sub -versions of this cinematic world can stand on their feet and get out of the shadow of the Warren.
2- Summary (The Conjuring)

- Year of release: 2013
- Director: James Van
- Cast: Patrick Wilson, Vira Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lily Taylor, Joie King, Shenley Casul, Hayley McFarland
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 7.5 out of 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 86 out of 100
Summoning with unexpected scary moments, Patrick Wilson’s and Vira Farmiga’s classmates, unique stuntmen, proper rhythm and a good screenplay, have actually saved the scary genre from decline and are a turning point. The horror genre, which was associated with stereotypical and stereotypical films for years, experienced a new start with “summoning”. “Summon” has two winning sheets. First, the film is “based on a real story”; Or at least they say it is. This made the film’s fears much more realistic and scary.
Second, the film removes a stereotype in the horror genre and makes it completely overrun. In most horror films, the main character confronts a carbod; One who provides the critical information needed to overcome evil. “Summon” takes this stereotype and overthrows it: Experts (Ed and Lauren Warren) become the main characters.
Normally, the main characters have a history of confrontation and control of ghosts and demons, but James One takes another clever step: we first join the out -of -family family who have moved to a conquered home and there is no Warren’s aid. This approach leads to a number of extremely scary sequences
Experienced main characters could make the risk less and make the film less scary, but the film takes another clever step: showing the Peron family who moved to a conquered home, in the first scene without the help of Warren. The same decision leads to the creation of some of the best and greatest fears of the film. “Summon” is truly brilliant, a film that leaves us in the hearts of fears and does not need huge budgets or special effects to make us frightened.
1- Summon 2 (The Conjuring 2)

- Year of release: 2016
- Director: James Van
- Cast: Patrick Wilson, Viera Farmiga, Francis O’Connor, Simon McBerne, Franca Puttenta, Madison Wolf, Robin Atkin Downtown
- IMDB User Rating to Movie: 7.3 of 10
- Ratan Tommos Points to Movie: 80 out of 100
Making a sequence for “summoning” was similar to the solving of a multi -unknown equation. How could James One make a good sequel to a film that had both a cultural phenomenon and a fireworks? He found the answer, returned all the elements he had answered in the first episode, adding new ideas to the story and made the new Warren case more complicated than before.
This time, the wheels are heading to London to help the Hodgson family; A family whose new home is conquered by a spirit that does not want to be there. Warren soon realize that this is not a regular jinn file and is in serious danger. The location is one of the reasons that this story works so well. Going from a remote rural house to a small apartment in central London changes the mechanism of the story. In addition to the clostrophobia of a smaller place, the crowded city makes much more eyes. This makes both believers and pessimists enter the story and make the work more complicated.
James One directs the scary scenes this time. Here, we have widespread scary sequences that sometimes take a few minutes and are full of increasing tension and pure creativity. The characters of my Crocodes and the old man, with their memorable design, have added some kind of playfulness to the story that the first film had avoided.
These are memorable, but Wallock should be the culmination of the film. The nun, with that brilliant makeup and the powerful game of Bonnie Arons, has made the film a more scary work. The evil of the first film was more focused on the Peron family, but here, Wallock is working with the Warren itself. Instead of being like heroic experts, they look much more vulnerable, and that affects film fears. Summon 2 may not have the cultural impact of the first part, but it upgrades what has been done before, and the film is far more scary.
