Sattar Hashemi, Deputy Minister of Communications, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 10th Information Technology and Knowledge Conference, which was held at the Research Institute of Communication and Information Technology, pointed out the role of artificial intelligence in the economic development of countries and said: Today, the issue of big data and the volume of data is amazing. It is growing and this concept has been considered as a competitive advantage of countries along with information processing platforms.
Stating that many scientists consider the fourth industrial revolution to be equivalent to the age of computing, he said: We are currently witnessing the growth and exchange of information in the age of virtual space, and statistics show that more than 188 million emails are exchanged in the world every minute. At the same time, the amount of downloads of practical applications per minute has been announced at 190,000 times, and it is expected that by the end of 2020, users will generate more than 1.7 megabits of data per second.
Deputy Innovation Minister of Communications, stating that today the issue of artificial intelligence and issues related to processing and deep networks have attracted the attention of different countries of the world, said: the influence of artificial intelligence in human life is happening and the events that are caused by this concept in The world is happening, it can transform many concepts.
He said: For example, the intelligent management of transportation and traffic is now being done through artificial intelligence tools with the least amount of mistakes. The role of this technology in predicting diseases is also significant.
Hashemi called artificial intelligence one of the main axes of digital transformation and said: sooner or later we will see that self-driving cars will stop the insurance industry or our medical field will be transformed by artificial intelligence. A study by the McKinsey Research Center shows that artificial intelligence will replace 30% of the human workforce by 2030, and many industries will use this technology.
He also said about the effects of artificial intelligence in the economy: the share of artificial intelligence in the world economy is expected to be 25.5 trillion dollars by 2030, 10% of which is related to developed Asian countries and 2% of this share is related to the Middle East. Hashemi said: Iran does not have a suitable position in the discussion of being ready to absorb the field of artificial intelligence, and the necessary preparation in this regard is not seen. We do not have the possibility to attract graduates of this field and create an incentive for this department.
Deputy Minister of Communications continued: Iran ranks 72nd in the world in readiness to absorb artificial intelligence. He said: With the emphasis of the Minister of Communications on the field of artificial intelligence, it is expected that the direction and strategies of this field will be drawn up in the Research Institute of Communication and Information Technology.
Referring to the challenges of artificial intelligence, Deputy Minister of Communications said: Many of our managers do not have sufficient and necessary familiarity with this field and do not take it seriously. Although good efforts have been made in the field of open data, the statistics and outputs are not good.
Hashemi called lack of attention to regulations and laws related to artificial intelligence as well as copyright and intellectual property as other challenges in this field and said: lack of processing laboratories is one of the other things that should be taken into account in this field in the country. We must solve the need for an information processing platform. He stated: Machine learning speed is faster than humans and if we do not solve these challenges, artificial intelligence will be a serious threat to our intelligent systems.
