During the AI ​​Day 2022 event, Elon Musk unveiled the first model of the Optimus humanoid robot, which significantly uses the software and some sensors used for the automatic driving system of Tesla cars.

During this event, Mr. Musk said that this prototype was able to walk and do the tasks for the first time tonight without auxiliary aids. After the ceremony, Elon Musk said in the question and answer session that this robot will probably reach buyers at a price below 20,000 dollars, and considering Tesla’s experience in the field of artificial intelligence and electric cars, this company has a say in the field of robotics. He will have a lot to say.

He said that the main difference between the Optimus robot and robots made by other companies is that Optimus was designed and developed for mass production of millions of units. In the scene of the event, the Optimus robot made movements such as walking and even dancing, but Elon Musk said that to reduce the risk, the total movements of the robot in this event are much more limited than usual.

He also showed some videos of the applications of such a robot, for example, in one of them we can see the removal of boxes by the robot in question. Next, the specialists of this company brought another prototype to the stage, which according to Elon Musk, the final model of the Optimus robot uses such a shape and image, but the movements of this robot were mainly limited to its hand.

According to Mr. Musk’s announcement, the initial robot that was shown has been developed over the past 6 months and many challenges have been overcome to prepare it. He also expressed hope that the preparation process will be finalized within the next few months or even years.

A 2.3 kilowatt-hour battery is installed inside this humanoid robot, which also uses a Tesla-made chipset. As we said, the Autopilot software of Tesla cars has gone to this robot so that it can move easily in different environments. To train its humanoid robot, Tesla has recorded many videos of human physical activities such as picking up boxes, so that all these activities will be transferred to the robot.

Mr. Musk, who officially announced the development of such a robot last year, said at the same ceremony that this robot can create a serious transformation in the production lines of factories. He says the robot could eventually become more important than Tesla’s car business.

In the meantime, experts in the field of robotics believe that Elon Musk’s claims regarding the epidemic of humanoid robots should not be taken too seriously. These people believe that some companies have made significant progress in building humanoid robots that can perform simple activities such as walking, running or even jumping, but none of these companies have yet claimed to replace human labor. .
