OpenAIthe popular chatbot manufacturer ChatGPT It has faced a new lawsuit alleging that it stole and misused internet users’ data to train its artificial intelligence tools.
The plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit, filed in California federal court, allege that OpenAI secretly collected large amounts of personal data from Internet users, CNN reported. In addition to the misuse of user data, the complaint also emphasizes the amount of data used by OpenAI, which the plaintiffs claim was enormous.
Complaints against ChatGPT developer
In addition to the ChatGPT builder, from Microsoft which is one of the main investors of OpenAI is also named as a defendant in this complaint.
Timothy K. Giordano of Clarkson Law Firm says:
“By collecting the personal data of millions of people and abusing it to develop a runaway, untested technology, OpenAI puts everyone at risk that is incalculable and unacceptable under data protection standards.”
The complaint also claims that OpenAI products “use stolen private information, including personally identifiable information, of millions of Internet users, including children of all ages, without prior consent or notice.”
The plaintiffs in the case are seeking an injunction to temporarily halt further commercial use of OpenAI’s products. They are also seeking financial compensation for people whose data was used to develop and train OpenAI tools.

Late last year, OpenAI publicly launched the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot, and this tool quickly became very well received by cyberspace users due to its extraordinary ability to generate persuasive responses to user requests. ChatGPT’s success has also created a huge competition in the field of artificial intelligence, where companies large and small are trying to develop their own artificial intelligence tools or add them to their products.
Of course, this technology also brings concerns, including the disclosure of sensitive information, and for this reason, the US Congress recently announced restrictions on the use of ChatGPT.
